A SHOPPING ROLE PLAY

Today we'll go shopping along a typical British high street. You will be divided into two groups: group A (you will be given shopping lists) and group B (you will be shop owners).

There are five shops:

  • a computer shop
  • a newsagent's
  • a fruit shop
  • a small supermarket
  • a language bookshop.
Choose one of them and a corresponding shopping list for your partner:

Group A
Group B

Expressions you might want to use:

'I'm looking for a…',
'I wonder if you can help me, I…',
'How much is that?'
I am just looking / browsing.
Do you think it's possible to get a discount?
Could you wrap it up for me?
Is there anything else I can get for you?
Are you being helped?
Keep your receipt. If something comes up, you can show it to us and we'll give you a refund.
How would you like to pay?
Can I try it on?
Where are the changing rooms?
